KATIE "KAY" MANCHAK
18-Jun-1923 - 4-Oct-2022
An amazing life has passed, 99 wonderful years and strong to the end.
She is survived by her sons Barry (Jan) and Dwayne (Josy), grandchildren Jeff (Sam) and Kate (Thomas), great grandchildren Duncan, Emma and Madeline. She was so proud of them all. She also leaves behind sisters Mary and Helen and brother Walter. She was predeceased by siblings Mike, Nancy, Ella, Bill, Stan, Jack, and Olga.
Mom was widowed in 1961, from her husband Meron Manchak, but kept her focus going forward to raise her sons.
She was an amazing cook, gardener, homemaker and sports enthusiast. Mom loved watching Edmonton sports teams and supported them through the many years of their championships. But of course, curling was her favourite sport. It was very important to provide her with schedules so she could follow her favorite teams and curling bonspiels on TV. Mom was very artistic as well. She took art lessons and created some beautiful paintings. She was a wonderful quilter, knitter, crocheter and did numerous other handicrafts and projects.
In her final years Mom was a resident at Shepherd's Care Millwoods. We would like to thank the staff there for their care and compassion. Mariah was her favorite and she always went above and beyond to look after Mom’s needs. Thank you.
Our lives will go on. They will be guided by her love and we will be surrounded by so many wonderful memories. Mom, you will be missed by all that had the good fortune to know you.
A celebration of Kay's life will be held at the South Side Memorial Chapel, 8310 104 Street on Saturday, October 29 at 11:00 a.m. Reception will follow the service.
In lieu of floral donations, you can donate to the CANADA-UKRAINE FOUNDATION (cu foundation.ca) or a charity of your choice.
