    2. [S931] Obituary of Sister Maureen ROSE, (Name: Seattle Times; Location: Seattle, King, Washington, USA; Date: 15 Jun 2014;).
      Sister Maureen Rose

Sister Maureen Rose died May 30, 2014 in Adrian, Michigan. She was 79 years of age and in the 58th year of her religious profession as a Dominican Sister.

Sister Maureen was born in Greenwood, British Columbia to Albert and Catherine (McDonald) Rose, and was baptized Josephine. She graduated from St. Ann Academy in New Westminster, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Holy Names College in Spokane and a Master of Education degree from Seattle University.

Sister Maureen taught high school for twenty seven years: seven years at Holy Angels, nineteen years at Bishop Blanchet, both in Seattle, and one year at Eastside Catholic in Bellevue. She also served her religious community in leadership positions for 13 years. Her greatest delight was in her students, and trying to teach them mathematics. She was an excellent teacher, and her students were very fond of her, and she of them. Many students kept in touch with her over the years, some until her death.

Her last ministry was in Yakima, where she established a successful program enabling migrants to learn English as a second language. She left when she became too ill to continue. Despite poor health, Sister Maureen maintained her optimistic outlook and sense of humor. She inspired others by her devotion to God and care for everyone she met. Her outgoing personality attracted others to enjoy life and never miss a party.

Sister Maureen is survived by her Dominican Sisters, by her sister, Alberta Seidel, her brother, Donald Rose, both of British Columbia, and loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass will be offered on Monday, June 16th at 1:00 pm at Assumption Church in Seattle. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, Michigan, 49221.
