Arlene Helen Krause, 89, of Wyndmere, ND, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2019, at her home. Visitation will be on Monday, June 10, 2019 from 9:00 am - 10:00 am followed by the funeral service at 10:00 am at Wyndmere Lutheran Church in Wyndmere. Rev. Harvey Henderson will officiate the service. Burial will be at Elk Creek Cemetery in Wyndmere. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.
Arlene Helen Krause, daughter of Stanley and Lillian (Fenyk) Staroba, was born February 17, 1930 in Danton Township. Her parents each came to the United States at a young age from Czechoslovakia. She attended rural school in Liberty Grove Township and is a graduate of Lidgerwood High School and the North Dakota State School of Science. She taught rural schools in Richland County for several years.
Arlene was united in marriage to William Krause on June 12, 1951, at Wyndmere Lutheran Church. They moved to their farm in Wyndmere Township in October of 1951, where they farmed, ranched, and raised their two sons, David and Dale. In 1979, William and Arlene received the Richland County Soil Conservation Award. In 2000, William and Arlene moved to their present home in Wyndmere.
Arlene was active in the community and did volunteer work for the Richland County Cancer Society. She was a teacher for Wyndmere Lutheran Church, where she was a member, and held offices in ALCW, Liberty Grove Homemakers and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, William; her two sons, David (Debbie) Krause and Dale (Connie) Krause; grandchildren, William (Lucinda) Krause, Nicole (Dustin) Herk, James (Bri) Krause, Casey (Alissa) Herbranson, and Sarah Herbranson; great-grandchildren, Maya and Laurel Herk, Jaylin and Josie Herbranson, and Claire and Dean Erickson.
Arlene is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Edwin and Raymond Staroba; a nephew, Arlyn Staroba; and a sister-in-law, Marion Staroba.

William John Krause passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND at the age of 93. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, from 1:00 PM-2:00 PM, followed by a 2:00 PM Funeral Service at Wyndmere Lutheran Church in Wyndmere, ND. Burial will follow the service at Elk Creek Cemetery in Wyndmere, ND.
William John Krause, son of Harry and Berniece (Scribner) Krause, was born March 24, 1930, in Belford Township. He attended school in Dexter Township through 6th grade until he left school to help work on the family farm.
On June 12, 1951, Bill married his lifelong love, Arlene Staroba, at Wyndmere Lutheran Church and from their union two sons were born. The family lived and farmed for many years in rural Wyndmere, and even won the Richland County Soil Conservation Award in 1979. Farming was near and dear to his heart, and he continued raising cattle until the age of 90.
A dedicated countryman, Bill served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked with the Military Police and was stationed in both France and Germany before being honorably discharged in 1953.
Community involvement was important to Bill, and he was active in numerous organizations; Wyndmere American Legion, Mantador VFW, Wyndmere Young Farmers, North Dakota Farm Bureau, Richland County Drain Board, Tri-County Water Board, North Dakota State Water Board, and Wyndmere Farmer's Elevator Board – just to name a few!
Bill is survived by his two sons, David (Debbie) Krause and Dale (Connie) Krause, grandchildren, William Krause, James (Bri) Krause, Nicole (Dustin) Herk, Casey (Alissa) Herbranson, Sarah Herbranson; great-grandchildren, Maya Herk, Laurel Herk, Deacon Krause, Jaylin Herbranson, Josie Herbranson, Claire Erickson, Dean Erickson; sisters, Lois Draper and Carole Chalupnik.
Preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; brother, Bruce Krause; brothers-in-law, Pat Draper, Donald Chalupnik, Ed Staroba, Ray Staroba; sister-in-law, Marion Staroba; nephew, Arlyn Staroba.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made out to the American Legion of Wyndmere, VFW of Mantador, or a charity of donor's choice.
