HAZEL IRENE ABSHIRE KENT Hazel Irene "Cissie" Abshire Kent, 89, of Beckley, formerly of Mount Hope, died at her home on Monday, July 22, 2013. Born October 26, 1923, at Mount Hope, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Mabel Perry Abshire. She married Norman Bon-Durant Kent on November 15, 1958 in Petersburg, Virginia. Hazel was a retired employee of the Fayette County Board of Education as a custodian at Mount Hope Elementary School. She was a member of the Mount Hope Christian Church and the Winolia Chapter No. 59, Order of the Eastern Star, Mount Hope. She was preceded in death by her sister, Muriel Deal and two brothers, Ashby Abshire and Lewis “Tommy” Abshire. Survivors include her son, Stephen B. Kent and his wife, Michele; two grandsons, Stephen J. Kent and Logan Kent; one brother, Charles “Jim” Abshire; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Nancy Martin, Della Cole and John Creed. Graveside rites will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2013, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity with Minister Dennis Kinzer officiating. Burial will follow. Arrangements by Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope.
