Richard John McGowan passed away Sept. 20, 2010 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
He was born in Akron to the late Stephen and Emma Lewis McGowan and attended St. Paul's Grade School. He then graduated from St. Mary's High School, where he lettered in baseball, basketball and football. He was drafted by the Cleveland Indians and played one year of minor league baseball. He also attended the University of Akron. Mr. McGowan was a retired salesman in the footwear industry.
Richard is survived by his wife, JoAnn McGowan; children, Lynn (Mike) DeGroff, Steve (Debbie) McGowan, Diane (Wayne) Westmoreland, and Rich (Kim) McGowan, all of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Danny DeGroff, Sara Barnes, Stephen McGowan, Andrew McGowan, Michael McGowan, Amanda Westmoreland, Matt Westmoreland, John Westmoreland, Jacob McGowan, Kathleen McGowan, Joshua McGowan, and Claira McGowan; great-grandchildren, Brighton and Natalie Barnes, and Shelby DeGroff. Mr. McGowan was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen McGowan, a brother, Stephan McGowan, and a sister, Agnes Lewis.
Graveside service will be held Saturday at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Mr. McGowan may be made to St. Rose School or St. Rose Preschool Murfreesboro, TN.
