    2. [S1396] Obituary of Ernest MERTA, (Name: Burgar Funeral Home; Location: Camrose, Camrose, Alberta, Canada; Date: Abt. 05 Dec 2011;).
Mr Ernest Merta of Camrose formerly of Viking, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 201 at the age of 85 years.

Ernest Donald Merta peacefully went home to be with Jesus on Saturday December 3, 2011 at the age of 85 years. Ernie is survived by his loving wife, Beth and their four children: Elaine and Roger Mariner (Christine and Kyle Gogolinski, David and Jessica) of Edmonton, Bob and Kathy (Justin, Eric and Alison) of Quesnel, B.C., Wes and Sue (Andrew, Melissa and Ashley) of Sherwood Park and Kevin and Isabelle (Philippe, Sebastien and Stephanie) of St. Albert.

Ernie was the youngest of 11 children born to Wesley and Mary Merta, who homesteaded in the Prague area south of Viking. After completing Grade 8, he left school to help his dad on the farm and later helped two of his brothers on their farms. In his early 20's, Ernie purchased land 7 miles east of Viking and began farming on his own. However, he was not alone for too long, as he met a beautiful blonde teacher at a dance and he and Beth were married in July of 1955.

Initially, they lived in a small house that Ernie and his dad built in Viking. It was later relocated to the farm and accommodated their growing family until 1972, when Ernie and his brother Louis built a larger house. He continued to farm until 1992 and lived in the house until 1995 when he and Beth moved to Camrose. Ernie was an active member of his church and a contributor to the community in both Viking and Camrose.

Ernie lived his life for the Lord, his family and others. He was a humble farmer who could make everyone including a stranger feel welcomed and loved. Ernie was an incredible husband, an amazing father and an awesome grandpa. He was also a special uncle, honourary dad or grandpa and mentor to many. The legacy he left behind will never be forgotten.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 1:00 pm., from The Calvary Pentecostal Church in Camrose with Pastor Clayton Milgate officiating. Inurnment took place in the Camrose Cemetery.

If friends so desire memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to 100 Huntley Street, or to The Camrose Food Bank.
