RUZICKA, Lorne Joseph April 14, 1954 - February 25, 2009
It is with an overwhelming sense of loss that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, son, brother, and friend, Lorne Joseph Ruzicka. At Ross Shepherd High School, Lorne was class historian of his graduating class; struggled thru statistics to achieve his Bachelor of Commerce Degree, with distrinction, at the University of Alberta in 1976i and then went on, afte rsome tim eout to travel the world, to graduate with an LLB from the University of Alberta in 1980 as the elected president of his class. After articling and practicing at Ogilvie & Company, Lorne took some time to travel and to obtain a Masters Degree from the London School of Economics in 1987. Lorne finished his legal career at the Federal Department of Justice. His time at DOJ allowed him to mentor other lawyers to be the best they could be, and to think outside the box. He absolutely lvoed his work and the people he worked with at DOJ. He was generous to a fault - one always had to be careful not to look too hard at one of the many objects d'art he and his wife Kate had collected on their many travels, or it would be yours. Lorne was charming and charismatic with a tremendous sense of humour. He was a gourmet chef and loved to cook for his friends. An accomplished sailor, he sailed the waters of Tahiti, Turkey, and the BVI's with Kate, and taught many others how to sail on the waters of Pigeon Lake. In sum, Lorne was a gtrue original and an unforgettable man. He enriched the lives of all those around him, and challenged them to live life to the fullest. He is survived by his wife and soul mate Kate Dykstra, son Joel, mother Evelyn Ruzicka, twin sister Lynne Ruzicka (Tom Owen), brother Bob Ruzicka (Suzanne Mir) and many nieces and nephews. There will be a small family service. Condolences may be sent through: www.connelly-mckinley.com
