    3. [S1129] Obituary of 'Katrina' Tina KLIMOSKO (MARTENS), (Name: Parkland Funeral Home; Location: Red Deer, Alberta, Canada; Date: Abt. 30 Nov 2015;).
Obituary for 'Katrina' Tina Klimosko (Martens)

      'Katrina' Tina Klimosko (Martens)

Tina Martens was born May 20, 1934 in the country just outside of McMahon, Saskatchewan to Jacob & Marie Martens. She was one of 10 brothers & sisters: Jim, Abe, John, Pete and her twin brother, Cornie, Mary, Helen, Anne and Agatha(Ag) all of whom are predeceased.

The family moved to Swift Current, Saskatchewan. This is where Tina grew up and developed her love of sports and art. She spoke of going to hockey games with her father and cheering loudly. I can still hear her scream at the TV for the players to “Get it in there!” meaning for her team to score. While in Swift Current, Tina was a bit of an athlete. In school she loved basketball and track and field, which she excelled at and received trophies for her efforts.

As a teen and young adult she was typical of the “Youth of the time”, keeping up with the clothing styles. For example putting on a pair of Jeans, then climbing into the tub to ensure the Jeans would shrink to her body. She listened to “Rock n Roll”. In fact, while working as a waitress she actually met “Bill Haley & the Comets”. At that very same diner, she met her future husband, Walter. He wasn’t old enough to marry so they waited until his birthday and then married in Edmonton, Alberta on October 7, 1955.
Once married, they bought a house trailer and moved to Estevan, Saskatchewan. While there, Tina gave birth to a son, Wayne. On January 1, 1958, they moved to Red Deer, Alberta. Tina was a “stay-at-home” Mom for several years where she developed a talent for doing art, drawing or painting pictures. She joined a bowling league and watched TV to fill some of her free time.

When Tina re-joined the work force, she worked at The Hudson Bay, the Co-op and then Safeway where she retired.

Tina continued to enjoy watching sports but not as loudly as in the past. She really enjoyed going to watch her grandson, Logan play hockey. No matter how old he became, he was always promised $5.00 for every one of his “shutouts”.

Tina developed hand tremors which stopped her from continuing her love of knitting and doing art projects.

Simple things made her happy, going for coffee and meals with friends and family. The sight of her grandson, Logan and her great grandson, Brock would bring a sparkle to her eye.

Tina is survived by her husband of 60 years, Walter; son, Wayne; grandson, Logan and girlfriend Amy; great grandson, Brock; in-laws Tina Martens, Doreen Martens, Betty Martens, Art Terlesky, Ken Klimosko and Joan, Ted Klimosko and Maureen, Ed and Gwen Klimosko and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Tina will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all her friends and family.
