    1. [S1301] Obituary of Karen Ann SEVCIK, (Name: Red Deer Advocate; Location: Red Deer, Alberta, Canada; Date: 01 Dec 2005;).
SEVCIK Mrs. Karen Ann Sevcik, beloved wife of Mr. Charlie Sevcik of Red Deer, died peacefully at home after a short battle with lung cancer, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, November 25, 2005 at the age of 66 years. Karen was born on August 1, 1939 at Medicine Hat, Alberta. After completing her education degree at the University of Alberta, she moved to Red Deer in 1962 to begin her teacher career. Shortly after moving to Red Deer, she met and was married to Charles Sevcik on July 4, 1964. Karen was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. After short stints as a Language Arts Teacher in the Red Deer Catholic School System she "retired" from teaching to raise her seven children who were spread out over twenty years. Karen found time to be very active in many ministries with the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Deer, including time served as the President of the Catholic Women's League, mostly owing to her amazing powers of organization and energetic work ethic. Karen was an avid reader, baker, shopper and gardener. She made many wonderful hardanger pieces and shared her passion for this form of handcraft, as part of the "Our Ladies of the Stitchery" Group. Her wonderful sense of humor and knowledge she gladly shared with family and friends will be missed. Karen leaves to mourn her loving husband, Charlie, her children, Catherine (Steve), Susan (James), Margaret, Stephen (Lara), Paul (Lisa), Sarah and Helen and her grandchildren, Gregory, Joshua, David and Sean. She will also be sadly missed by her sister, Sandra Seifert of Medicine Hat, Alberta, as well as numerous other family members and many longtime friends. Karen was predeceased by her parents, Iver and Evelyn Wolf, and her step-mother, Mary Wolf. Prayers will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, December 2, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation will follow at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Interment will be held at a later date at the Red Deer Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta. If desired, Memorial Donations in Karen's honour may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, C/O Central Alberta Cancer Centre, Box 5030, 3942 – 50A Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 6R2 or to the Red Deer Christmas Bureau Society, P.O.
