Obituary for Helen Meylor
Helen Meylor, 68, of Vermillion, SD died Thursday, April 21 at her residence after a battle with cancer.
Helen was born November 8, 1942 in Waterbury, NE to John and Cecilia Marx. She graduated from Waterbury High School and worked at AT&T as a telephone operator until 1969.
Helen married Leonard “Pat” Meylor on September 17, 1966 in Ponca, NE. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was an active volunteer for many years at Birthright of Siouxland.
She is a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion and was previously a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Sioux City, IA and St. Michael’s Church in Kingsley.
She is survived by two sons; Michael (Lisa) Meylor of San Antonio, TX, and Kevin (Pam) Meylor of Vermillion, as well as two brothers and four sisters; John (Pat) Marx of Lubbock, TX, Cecilia Patterson of Danbury, IA, Mary Dierking and Margaret Craig, both of Ponca, NE, Susie (Dan) Comstock of South Sioux City, NE, Nick (Mary) Marx of McCook Lake, SD. She is also survived by six beloved grandchildren; Lauren, Maddie, Brendan, Patrick, Connor and Ellie. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 26 at St. Agnes Catholic Church with burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Kingsley, IA. VERMILLION, S.D. -- Leonard "Pat" Meylor, 70, of Vermillion, formerly of Kingsley, Iowa, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at his residence.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion. Burial of the ashes will be at a later date in St. Michael's Cemetery, Kingsley. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Thursday, with a rosary at 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the church. Pat was born Aug. 8, 1936, in Kingsley, to Leonard and Elva (Dugan) Meylor. He graduated from Kingsley High School. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard until his discharge in 1958.
He married Helen Marx on Sept. 17, 1966, in Ponca, Neb. He had worked as a postal clerk for 34 years, retiring in 1991. The couple moved to Vermillion in 2001.
He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sioux City and St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kingsley.
He is survived by his wife, Helen of Vermillion; two sons, Michael (Lisa) Meylor of San Antonio, Texas, and Kevin (Pam) Meylor of Vermillion; a brother, Larry (Donna) Meylor of Sioux City; and six grandchildren.
